Avoiding Processed Foods

Processed foods are any food that has gone through a process and while we will talk about processed food in a negative light we should first face a few facts.

Frozen vegetables are processed foods but they are a great source of vitamins and nutrition, they are mostly picked at their optimum time and frozen quickly conserving their goodness, they are not as good as freshly picked vegetables but they come a good second. They are infinitely better for you than tinned vegetables tinned fruit should be completely avoided.

Treated milk is preferable to natural milk for safety reasons, but I like to avoid milk altogether there are better ways to get calcium. Milk is not the healthy food it is cracked up to be.

Fruit juices providing that they have no added sugars is a healthy processed food you can even get them with calcium added, but squeezing your own fruit is still far more favourable in every way.

All bread, pasta and even rice are processed foods but here we will talk about how processed they are, whole grain wheat is OK in reasonable amounts as is whole grain rice. These foods contain valuable fibre and can be a valuable part of our diets.

Bleached white flour that goes into most Supermarket Bread and Pasta should not be eaten by anyone ever, it is nutritionally bereft. If we fed the equivalent too our animals we would be branded cruel. To give it to our children is sick.

White rice is not as bad as the example above but it does not add a lot of nutrition it is made up of pretty empty calories and empty calories are hardly going to do away with you cravings.

Sugar I do not take sugar not for any reason, sugar is pure carbohydrate and is the most useless food product on the planet. My daughter recently said to me that she thought that I was cruel keeping sweets from children, but surely the cruelty is the other way around, giving your children the possibilities of a myriad of health complaints later in life is not responsible parenting.

So no canned foods, no packet foods, no sugar, no white flour products and no white rice sounds pretty tough huh, not even a little bit tough and nowhere near as tough as lugging all the excess fat around that you are currently doing, nowhere near as tough as dying early and leaving your children bitter and worse following your example to obesity.
